Plein Wild Outdoor Art Exhibit at Fontainebleau State Park

We’re joining Ellen Ogden, Ashley Ferguson of Roots Floral Preservation, and Leslie Charleville of L Charleville Studios for Plein Wild at Fontainebleau State Park on October 22-24.

The pieces we've been working on, each in our own medium, will be returning to the place that inspired them. Keep reading to see the park-inspired pendant Madeline's brought to life and for a preview of the rest of the work you'll find at the exhibit.

Plein Wild Flyer

Plein Wild is an outdoor exhibition to be held at Louisiana's Fontainebleau State Park, built around the art of careful noticing. Each artist featured in the show was tasked with contributing work inspired by the park and our state's natural landscape.

With a diverse, rich landscape filled with a vast variety of flora and fauna, it is easy to be inspired. The most beautiful part of taking in inspiration from a place so abundant is that, no matter how many times you look or who is looking, there is always something new to notice.

MIMOSA's Plein Wild Pendant

Like a portal or a frame, this pendant invites you to look through and find your own inspiration in the natural world around you.

Icons of the Fontainebleau landscape wrap the round frame like friends of the park, welcoming you into a precious place that belongs to all of us.

Plein Wild Outdoor Exhibit Details

Plein Wild is an outdoor art exhibition at Fontainebleau State Park, celebrating the beauty of Louisiana’s natural landscape through the eyes of four artists. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore original works inspired by the park, each created using a different artistic medium and approach to observing the natural world.

In addition to the exhibition, the artists have collaborated to create a limited collection of 50 bags filled with small works and keepsakes inspired by the park. These bags will be available for purchase at the park, with proceeds benefiting Fontainebleau State Park.

MIMOSA will also be donating 50% of sales from the first 50 Plein Wild Pendants sold to Fontainebleau State Park.

Original artwork from the exhibition will also be available for purchase directly from the artists.

Ellen is no stranger to plein-air painting, and it's always so incredible to see the spaces she captures in her work. This time, we're excited to be alongside her and watch her vision of Fontainebleau State Park come to life.

She and Leslie Charleville (below) partnered for the first-ever Plein Wild exhibit just last year.

For her second Plein Wild, Leslie is back with even more beautiful creations using the art of Gyotaku — the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. Most notably, you may recognize the alligators, both small and large, she captures in her work.

See Fontainebleau (and its critters) through her eyes at this year's exhibit.

Ashley's been creating pieces that feature her work with pressed botanicals. But this time, she's pressing plants from Fontainebleau State Park itself. (With permission, of course.)

"It's been so much fun bringing my background in biology into this project and finding a way to document the habitats of Fontainebleau through botanical art."

She also just so happens to be Madeline's cousin. :)
