We are honored to have been selected to create this special commemorative piece to celebrate 20 years of the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium.
Sitting high on the Mississippi River’s edge, the planetarium’s iconic dome is a work of art. The roof is blanketed with rows of scalloped shingles. Beneath the scalloped dome is an awe-inspiring space where films fascinate audiences through imagination and wonder.
I wanted to create something that captures the beauty of the architecture and the mystery it holds. On the outside of this dome pendant are hundreds of tiny scallops reminiscent of the rooftop. Stamped on the underside is the constellation “Eridanus,” known as the celestial river. I included it as an homage to the Mighty Mississippi that runs alongside the Louisiana Art & Science Museum.
The LASM is a treasure in our community, captivating young and old minds. It is home to a wide variety of impressive permanent and temporary exhibits. Add it to your Baton Rouge bucket list.
This pendant measures approximately 1" in diameter, with a 1/2" raised dome.
*The price listed above is for the pendant only. If you choose to add a chain, the updated total will be reflected in your cart.
To create the original version of this intricate piece, we used 3D-printed elements combined with our method of hand-carving wax. Click here to learn more about how we use the lost-wax casting method to create our pieces.
Created in our South Louisiana studio, blending traditional carving with 3D-printed elements for a truly original design.
Each piece varies slightly due to its handmade nature.
*Note: Sterling Silver and 14K Gold prices may vary due to fluctuation in the gold and silver markets.
Bronze first: Our bronze is a solid copper + tin alloy, lead free. Copper can react with the natural acids, sweat, and moisture in your skin. Some people may see a harmless green or blue mark. Others never do. It can even vary day to day based on humidity, activity, or hydration. This is normal and not a quality issue.
Tarnish & patina: Bronze darkens over time, just like sterling silver. That "dirty" look is natural oxidation (patina), not damage. A quick polish brings back a warm glow similar to 14k gold at a fraction of the cost. The trade off is a bit of maintenance.
Quick prevention tips:
• Remove before washing hands, swimming, showering, or heavy sweating.
• Dry well after wear.
• Apply a thin coat of clear nail polish or jewelry wax to the inside that touches skin if you are sensitive.
• Polish as needed with a treated jewelry cloth or gentle metal polish.
Want a lower-maintenance option? Many styles are also available in sterling silver or gold. Contact us and we will help you swap or upgrade.
General care for all MIMOSA jewelry:
• Check prongs that hold stones from time to time.
• If a hinge, clasp, or bracelet feels loose, please bring it in.
• Avoid harsh chemicals and cleaning products.
• Store dry in your cloth MIMOSA bag or a jewelry box when not wearing.
Professional care: We are happy to clean and check your piece anytime. Once a year is a good habit.
