Jewelry Gifts that Give Back to Youth Development and Empowerment
Front Yard Bikes
Front Yard Bikes is more than just our neighborhood bike shop here in Baton Rouge. While they sell new and used bikes, offer repairs, and stock essential bike accessories, they truly offer so much more, specifically to the youth in our community. In 2020, we worked with them on a summer fundraiser. Through your purchases of our Hug Ring, we facilitated a donation that funded 100 summer bike kits to give to kids who needed them most.
From Front Yard Bikes — "Front Yard Bikes (FYB) began as a community bike shop with a simple focus of teaching participants of all ages how to fix and maintain bikes. However, through organic growth and fueled by the eagerness of our youth to build new skills, FYB has evolved into a transformative force, teaching youth mechanics and workforce skills, while promoting inclusivity, mentorship, recreation, and academic achievement. We do this through safe, free, after-school and summer programming. Our youth are taught responsibility and become peer leaders as they are faced with ethical and moral questions in their day-to-day lives."

Jewelry Gifts that Give Back to Mental Health Support
Louisiana Mental Health Association
The Louisiana Mental Health Association helped to bring our Hug jewelry collection to life. Madeline was approached by the LA MHA (the Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge at the time) to create a custom piece. They envisioned a piece “that could be used to raise awareness about [mental health] in our community” and function as a fundraising tool for the association.
As mental health is a topic deeply personal to Madeline, she was eager to work together! Read the full story of how the Hug Collection came to be.
From the Louisiana Mental Health Association — "The Mission of the Louisiana Mental Health Association is to provide services, education, and advocacy for persons who need mental and behavioral health support."

Jewelry Gifts that Give Back to African American Heritage
River Road African American Museum
A little over 10 years ago I was still working as a landscape architect. I’d been assigned to help on a sitemaster plan for the River Road African American Museum (RRAAM) in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
The RRAAM was founded in 1994 by Kathe Hambrick. “The museum was opened with the purpose of educating visitors about the contributions of Africans and African Americans who lived and worked on the sugarcane and rice plantations in the region, known as 'plantation country.'“
Kathe Hambrick worked tirelessly to bring that purpose to reality. Thanks to her, this small but mighty museum has an impressive collection of history and culture that brings visitors from all over the country.
During our time working with her she took us on site visits to the museum stopping constantly to tell us the story of all the artifacts, structures, equipment, plants, and countless pieces of history she quite literally saved from being lost. She knew why they were there, why they were significant, and took time to make sure we understood as best we could.
I consider my short time working with her on this project a gift, the experience changed me to my core. Her passion to do work that mattered most was contagious and inspiring.
The museum’s existence and the education and accessibility it provides to central aspects of our shared cultural history has and will continue to change many lives.
And if you haven’t been yet, please consider visiting. The River Road African American Museum (RRAAM) is open for tours. — Madeline

Jewelry Gifts that Give Back to Animal Rescue and Wildlife Conservation

Second Chance Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation
The Second Chance Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation is in Bush, Louisiana, and exists to rescue and rehabilitate primarily squirrels and skunks. Rehabbing is expensive and time-consuming and almost all rehabbers do it with all their heart and their own money.
Pictured above are bags of nuts they were able to purchase thanks to your donations.
If you or someone you know comes across injured or orphaned wildlife, immediately contact a local permitted wildlife rehabilitator. They are trained to properly care for them and give them the best chance at survival.
