They say home is where the heart is. If that's true, a big chunk of mine lives just across the state line, west of Toledo Bend.

A Deep Connection to Texas

My mom entered this world in Georgia and was raised in Louisiana, but she was Texan from the day she was born to her fourth-generation Lone Star state parents. Every summer, holiday, or long weekend growing up, you could find her (at her happiest) on her grandparent's farm in Nacogdoches, Texas. Of all the places she'd called home, this place was home in her bones.

We grew up going to that same house often. Any chance my mom could sneak us away, you bet we'd be at our great grandparents' house feeding chickens, checking cows, and picking peaches. My mom's love for the country was contagious, and time there was a balm for our souls.

A Tribute to Texan Heritage

The summer I graduated high school, she was offered a promotion that would take her to a store at the edge of that same little Texas town, a few windy miles from her grandparents' house.

Her grandparents' house sat empty for years, and I like to think waiting for her. I never lived there, but when I say I'm going home to see my mom, it's Texas I'm going home to— back to the farm where the stars at night are big & bright.

Inspiration Behind our Western Jewelry: The Texas Collection

Over the years, my Louisiana-obsessed soul would take breaks to honor my Texas heritage. This collection of handcrafted Western jewelry is an homage to the generations of Texan souls that echo in my being. The work, research, and the time spent digging deep into these symbols woven through by best memories have been a gift.

Some of these symbols are instantly recognizable as Texan to most anyone, while others are symbols that mean Texas to me.

Symbols of Texas in Our Jewelry

This collection is a tribute to my kid's Texan grandparents, my Texan grandparents, and a few more generations of Texan grandparents before them. It's only fitting that I share it with you on Grandparents Day. I just wish mine were here to see it.

Barred Owl

Inspired by my grandmother from Houston, who came down with a bad case of owl collecting after college. She had a collection of more owl-themed things than you have EVER seen.

Armadillo

These little armored-covered critters we've all seen at least once, bottoms up on the shoulder of a highway road.

Osage orange

We'd bring back these lime green, brainy textured balls from Texas to "keep the bugs away."

Texas Longhorn

You haven't seen cute till your mom texts you a picture of her fresh born baby longhorn.

Key

A tiny key to who knows what, but the mystery makes it even more fun.

Horned Toad

The first horned toad I met was a ceramic likeness that lived on the headboard bookshelf of my grandparents' bed. His name was Ol' Rip, and his story is one of unlikely inspiration and a bona fide tall tale.
