Over the last few years Mimosa has gone from a one-woman-show to an A-team of wildly and distinctly talented people! They're all so cool and so talented I couldn't keep them to myself. The "about" section just wasn't cutting it so we're expanding on their awesomeness with a series of #MEETMIMOSA interviews. We hope you've been enjoying this series!
Meet Courtney! She was the first person to officially join the MIMOSA team and has been with us for going on 3 years now. She blazed through some pretty crazy territory with us in the early days and now has mastered the art of filling and shipping orders with lightning speed, and keeps us all in check with what needs to be made and when. And she's just an all-around awesome human.
How did you come to work at Mimosa and how do you describe your role?
Several years ago, I ordered a piece of jewelry from Madeline through Etsy (we soon realized we had a mutual friend through the Landscape Architecture program we both attended at Louisiana State University). A few years later, Madeline asked me to help her out with her Christmas season. Now, my main role is ensuring that orders flow through the MIMOSA shop quickly! I also love problem-solving efficiency and organizational challenges.
Tell us about your typical day of work. Are there any valuable daily habits you’ve found work for you?
I print out orders from the night before and see what we have in stock and what we need to cast for Friday. I then pass each order off to one of the team for some extra TLC (Dawson for stone setting, Grace for polishing, Greta for communication with clients, and Madeline for special projects.) I assemble pieces and ship them out. If needed, I also make wax pieces for the casting process and polish newly cast pieces. — Consistency in daily habits is the key! And coffee... all the coffee.
How does being at Mimosa nurture or contribute to the work you want to do in the world?
At the heart of it all, working at Mimosa has continually demonstrated to me the art of the long game — producing something, problem solving it, refining it, and producing it again. This process has been invaluable in helping me with my side projects.
What is your favorite piece of Mimosa jewelry and why?
The Pelican Cuff. It is androgynous and oh so very Louisiana.
What piece of advice would you give yourself two years ago?
Take your vitamins and eat more fruits and vegetables! And, girl, stop drinking CC's Mochasippis all the time.
What do you consider your superpower?
I can name most '80s songs within the first few beats of them being played. I feel confident I could save the world with that superpower.
What makes you wildly happy?
Movie night on the couch with my 2 guys and my dog, Millie, sipping some red wine (my dog is not sipping the wine, my husband and I are ;) ).
What are your top 3 books of all time?
- "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau
- "10% Happier" by Dan Harris
- "You Are A Badass" by Jen Sincero
- BONUS BOOK! "Present Over Perfect" by Shauna Niequist
What are 5 things you want to do in your life?
- Become a mom. (Our beautiful son, Jeffery, came to be in 2012 :) )
- Buy my parents a house.
- Flip a house.
- Help someone through a challenge that I currently face.
- Run a small side business that gives back to my community.
If you could put one message on a billboard for the whole world to see, what would it be?
Treat yourself well so you can treat others even better.
