Protecting my time-block has been vital to my productivity. If you haven't read The One Thing yet they outline exactly how to protect that valuable time-blocked time. I thought it was worth a quick re-cap here for any of you interested in keeping that work time safe. Personally I love check lists and knowing I've only got 4 things to make sure are checked before I get started makes life easier.
1. BUILD A BUNKER
Find a workspace with no distractions, shut the door, put a note on it, don't leave, don't go check the mail, it can wait. Pretend it's Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory where nobody ever goes in and nobody ever comes out.
2. STORE PROVISIONS
Stock up on water, coffee, snacks, whatever you find yourself leaving your bunker for.
3. SWEEP FOR MINES
For most of us this means our phone, turn it off, silent it, put it across the room and log off of the internet on your computer.
4. ENLIST SUPPORT
Let people know what your schedule is and when you WILL be available, most likely they'll get it and hold off for those 4 crucial hours of your productivity.
It's as fool proof as you make it. You can go as far as building a bathroom in your bunker or literally hiding in the closet to get your work done with zero distractions.
If you've got some tips that help you I'd love to hear them!
